Ursula K. Le Guin had the best writing routine ever.
Let's do it!
Experience 6 days of writing/reading heaven with...
Starts December 27th
6 Days of Writing for $199
The idea of spending most of your day writing, reading, listening to music, eating lots, and laying in bed sounds like a dream.
So let's do it!
Sure, you've got a job or kids or the many thousands of things that can take up your day.
But the most flexible time of year?
The weirdo nothing time between Christmas and New Years.
Most of those days are spent eating mashed potato leftovers and wondering what day it is.
Why not devote those days to writing instead? Or, at least, in addition to eating mashed potato leftovers.
Even if you can't join us for the full 2.5 hours for all 6 days, you can pop in and out as you have time, write along with the replays, and stay connected on Slack with a group of lovely people.
Spending 30 minutes with us each day to focus on your writing will get you a shocking amount of words on the page.
6 days to let your writing dreams come true?
It'll transform how you look at your work forever.
A virtual writing retreat where a group of delightful creatives will do a similar schedule to Ursula K. Le Guin's fantastic writing routine for 6 days.
Why not follow it to the letter?
Well, I hate waking up at 5:30am and getting to work at 7:15am may suck the life out of me.
Plus, writing for 2.5 hours a day is a lot easier to make time for than a 4.5 chunk.
Now, I can't make you wake up and lie in bed for 45 minutes or eat dinner for 3 hours. You don't need to do all of her schedule.
But, we'll meet live on Zoom at 9:30am Pacific (12:30pm Eastern/ 5:30pm UK) to write together for 2.5 hours, Dec 27th - Jan 1st.
The time will be broken up (since writing for 2.5 hours in a row can be daunting).
You'll get 2 shorter writing periods and 1 one-hour writing block with breaks for snacks, questions, and bathroom inevitabilities. Then will end with time for questions, sharing how it went, or other commiserations.
On Slack, we'll update each other with what we're reading/listening to and a space to share what other parts of Ursula's routine are working for us.
Plus, you can share any writing from the day for general feedback. It won't be line edits, but I can answer your questions and most important, tell you your draft is not terrible.
If you can't meet for 2.5 hours every day, that's fine!
Come when you can and write along with the replays when you want more focused writing time.
Even 30 minutes live with us for 6 days will get tons of words on the page.
In a similar course, Alanna wrote 12,000 words in 4 sessions.
You get 6 sessions.
That's a lot of words.
Friday December 27th - Wednesday January 1st. We'll meet every day on Zoom from 9:30am Pacific - Noon Pacific (12:15pm - 3pm Eastern/ 5:15pm - 8pm UK)
No! If you can make the whole time, great. If not, just come when you can. Staying for any length of time everyday will help your writing a ton.
Yes! You'll be able to leave and come back as much as you like.
No! You can keep your camera off the whole time, every day if you feel like it.
As you can tell from me listing tons of different writers, yes! This retreat isn't focused on any particular form of writing, it's just focused on writing. Actually writing in a way that feels fun.
Yes! You could use this time to write a sales page, an email sequence, a welcome sequence, blogs, or any other business content you'd like to get done.
Well, if you like to write or writing is any part of your life, you probably are a writer. Semantics aside, you don't need to be a professional writer for this retreat. As long as you're a person who likes the idea of taking 6 days to write 4 hours a day, this is for you!
I'm Amber Petty! I've written for the New York Times, Parade, Bustle, Greatist and a bunch of other places. For the past 3 years, I've helped hundreds of students get bylines and grow their audience. And I used to have a really hard time sitting down to write! But over time, I learn how to chill out my perfectionism and make writing easier so now it's something I want to do. So, I help other writers find ease and fun in writing, which also leads to lots more words written and way more consistency.
I don't want to give you any advice that'll jeopardize your job, but one, who's working that hard December 27th- January 1st? Two, these are very quiet sessions that would be easy to hide if someone comes near your desk. Three, yes! Why should your job manage your time like that? If you get your work done, who cares if there's some personal writing in the meantime (again, this is probably bad advice, please use your own discretion).
If you could make 4 of the calls, it would definitely be worth it. That's still a lot of writing and you can use the recordings of the sessions to give you some soothing writing time outside of the sessions. If you can't make 4 sessions, you might not get your money's worth.
This course is designed to be a break from your routine and a creative writing escape. It's all done online, so you don't need to leave the house. And though you can still do all your regular stuff, you get a built in break to finally put your writing first. Is that a retreat? To me, yes!
